in medieval legends — the demon of lust and debauchery, who visits young men at night and causes them voluptuous dreams, a character in the lower mythology of the peoples of Europe. Oddly enough, when describing succubi by medieval demonologists, the word succuba was used extremely rarely; for naming this class of creatures, the word succubus was used, which refers to the male genus, but in fact the creature does not have a specific sex and is asexual. This is probably due to the fact that, according to the view of Christian demonologists, a succubus is a devil in female form. Often described as a young attractive woman, however, having clawed feet and, sometimes, webbed wings.
